Katy/Fulshear, TX – February 3, 2010. . . . If FM 1463 is looking even more beautiful than usual, it’s thanks to Firethorne employees. Staffers of the 1,400-acre master-designed community recently adopted a two-mile stretch along their neighboring highway as part of the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) Adopt A Highway program to keep Texas highways litter-free.
“We’re responsible for helping maintain these two miles along FM 1463 and will be out there in our safety vests four times a year to support the Adopt A Highway litter prevention program,” said Firethorne Director of Marketing Janet Burkett. The FM 1463 assigned area spans from I-10 feeder road and heads south past Firethorne.
The Firethorne volunteers recently conducted their first clean-up duty. They included Burkett, Firethorne General Manager Wayne Meyer, Jefferson Development President Robert White and ten employees, including Firethorne Visitor Center Guides.
The TXDOT recently erected the official “Adopt A Highway Firethorne Employees” signpost.
Firethorne, located 15 miles west of the Houston Energy Corridor, features 150 acres devoted to parks and recreational amenities, a 12-acre lake with surrounding greenbelt, resort-style swim center, sports fields, hike/bike trails, parks and playgrounds, wildlife observation area and a natural bird habitat. It’s where the vibrancy of West Houston meets the small-town charm of Katy/Fulshear. Take I-10 West and exit Pin Oak to FM 1463, or call 281-693-1011.
